George Charles Poppensiek (1918- ) received his V.M.D. (Latin spelling of D.V.M.) degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1942 and an M.S. from Cornell University in 1951. He taught at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Maryland before working as a department head with the Lederle Laboratories Division of American Cyanamid Company where he was responsible for veterinary vaccine and antiserum production.
